Success Story - Drug Rehab Center

Opium Addiction
Opium
addiction has a long history.
It was a problem in the 1850’s when morphine was developed as a non-addictive substitute.
Morphine was soon a bigger
addiction problem than opium.
The morphine problem was ‘solved’ with another opium derivative – Heroin, which proved to be even more addictive than either morphine or opium. In the middle and latter parts of the 20th century along come methadone as the cure for heroin.
You guessed it, methadone is stronger, more addictive, and more life threatening than any of the opium derivatives that came before it. Ask any methadone addict, or addiction professional dealing with
methadone addiction and withdrawal. By the 1990’s the mortality rate from opium derivatives was estimated to be 20 times greater than the general population.

Well, Narconon is a long term, drug free, non-traditional drug
abuse treatment center.
What this means is that Narconon for one does not believe in the use of drugs in the treatment of drug or alcohol abuse.
Rather we address the factors leading up to and then continuing alcohol and drug abuse.
Substituting one drug for another just makes no sense! We are long term in that the program is designed for results not amount of time spent in rehab. Our average stay is generally 90 – 120 days depending on individual needs. Our students go at their own pace to insure the full abilities needed are gained. We are also non-traditional meaning the normal 12 step methodologies common to shorter programs and not used by rather an approach of gaining and using new abilities to produce a happy and drug free, productive life.
Cravings are extremely powerful urges to use drugs or alcohol again. When triggered,they often cause a person to imagine all kinds of reasons they should begin using drugs or drinking again. Once he or she has relapsed, the addict is now trapped in an endless cycle of trying to quit, craving, relapse and fear of withdrawal. In many drug
rehab programs, these cravings are addressed by administering medications that prevent the onset of withdrawal, and that replace the body’s need for the original drug with a substitute substance. The problem with this approach is that the body’s cravings are masked by the substitute drug and are not eliminated and the individual is not learning to build a new drug-free life. If the medication is dropped, the cravings show up and the person is very likely to lose the battle to stay off his or her drug of choice.
Rehab centers play a key role in
addiction recovery for many, many addicts and alcoholics. For many individuals a
rehab center offers a break from their normal environments where use and
addiction has become the norm for them. The amount of care, compassion, understanding, and persistence needed to affect a true and lasting recovery is often only available in a residential
rehab center.
To create true healing one must first get away from the source of injury, pain, upset and apathy and the
rehab center offers the drug free environment in which to do so.
In the field of
addiction treatment a
rehab clinic is generally meant to indicate a short term outpatient
treatment facility.
These can all too often be facilities where an individual receives replacement or supplemental drugs in an attempt to handle their drug or drugs of addiction.

Methadone is more harmful and more addictive than heroin which it is meant to replace.
One
addiction is being substituted for another. This is not to say all
rehab clinics operate this way or are detrimental. Some offer valid short term options until full
